Peter Hendrie - Born in North Devon & living on Exmoor.
Much of Peter’s work is based around the stunningly picturesque North Devon and Exmoor Coast & countryside, which he describes as a constant source of both inspiration & frustration.
Having first become interested in photography in the early 1980’s, he quickly established a preference for landscape and seascapes, taking inspiration from the scenery of the local area - he is now renowned for his evocative images of Devon & Exmoor having produced a series of books for a specialist publisher along with Calendars and Cards. In 2006, Peter won the Iconic section of The Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) competition with a series of Iconic images depicting Paris by night which subsequently led to the production of his book, Paris Illuminated.
Peter’s passion for landscapes has seen his photographic career progress from 35mm cameras like the Canon T90, through to medium format with the Fuji GX680 and the Fuji GX617 panoramic camera as a natural progression on to digital photography, using both the latest Canon DSLR and Fuji mirrorless cameras.
“I strive to capture the emotion which a landscape evokes within me & it is through the medium of film that I developed the patience to fully appreciate the detail & subtle changes in the atmospheric weather conditions & the play of light which characterise much of my work”.
Now a well established tour leader with the internationally renowned Photographic tour company Light and Land, with whom Peter started off as a client in 1999 before being recruited as a Tour leader - he now has years of experience in leading and co-leading tours to numerous locations around the globe and on home territory.
His tours on Exmoor have proved extremely popular over the years, hence the introduction of a Astrophotography workshop, launched in 2017, which filled very quickly. Andalusia is another popular tour and one that means a lot to Peter as it was the first tour that he attended as a client of Light and Land with Charlie Waite, which helped catapult Peter’s career as a photographer. Re-visiting Cuba, launching new tours to Provence and Brazil along with exploring new locations closer to home are just some of his goals for the future.
